This course will discuss how various rules and case law address issues related to monopolization, price discrimination, and various other illegal business practices that restrict trade.
The antitrust statutes written by Congress do not state exactly what is illegal. The courts must interpret the language in the statutes to determine what activities are prohibited. Antitrust law, therefore, refers to the antitrust statutes, the interpretation of the statutes by the courts, and the enforcement policies of administrative agencies, especially the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission. This course looks at how antitrust law is applied to various business arrangements.
