Course Overview

The Federal Rules of Civil Procedure related to Discovery and ESI (electronically stored information) was updated in 2015 in order to facilitate the fair and cost effective resolution of legal matters. It is important to take into consideration the impact that electronic communication has created. The massive amount of information that is a direct result of electronic communication impacts the cost and availability of discovery. With the mandatory requirement that parties must cooperate during the process of litigation increases the probability for the use of the meet and confer as an effective settlement tool. This 60 minute course will discuss the update to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, the meet & confer conference, and the difference between the attendance of the meet and confer as a routine court sanctioned conference vs. an instrument to facilitate the efficient and effective resolution of a legal dispute.
