Course Overview

The area of the legal business least understood by laymen and nonlawyer personnel is legal fees. Legal fees are directly related to law firm growth and profit but unreasonable fees charged can cause a legal organization to be scrutinized by courts and/or bar associations. While paralegals are not directly involved in establishing a firm’s fee structure, knowledge of legal fees will give them an understanding of the organization of a law firm and how the legal business differs from other businesses. With knowledge of legal fees, paralegals will understand how their time is converted into income and how their participation contributes to law firm profitability.
